Heading to Berlin in the summer is fab, the city comes alive – from al fresco lunches to street festivals; you won’t be short of things to do!

Check out our list of top tips to make the most of Berlin this summer:

1. Pack Wisely

Before we get into the fun summer activities…make sure you have packed sensibly! You’ll need light layers, plenty of sun cream, comfy shoes for walking and plenty of water! There is nothing worse than getting sun burnt on the first day of your holiday or feeling ill from dehydration – stock up on these useful items and you’ll be good to go.

2. Enjoy the Open Air Events

There are a whole host of free summer events in Berlin for you to enjoy. Every Sunday you can enjoy a free concert held in front of the Galerie im Körnerpark – simply pitch up and get in the summer mood! There are also summer concerts in the Englischer Garten. Located in the heart of Tiergarten you can enjoy a mix of music, from jazz to disco, all on an open air stage.

3. Stop for Ice Cream

Is there anything better than stopping for a mid-afternoon ice cream? Take a break from seeing the city at one of the many cafes. Head for one of the below or simply ask a local – they’ll be able to point you in the right direction for the best ice cream around. Aldemir Ice Café is a hidden gem offering delicious ice cream varieties! The Eismanufaktur Ice-Cream Parlours serve up fab ice creams without artificial flavourings or colourings and are a go-to for locals. We also recommend Café Rosenduft, Eisconditorei Monheim and Eisladen Schwarzkopf.

4. Go for a swim!

In the summer months you’ll find countless sunbathers and swimmers circling the Schlachtensee, which is the cleanest Berlin swimming lake. Situated to the south west of Berlin it is popular with locals due to its great travel connections and seven mile long boardwalk. Go on, grab your bathing suit and head down there for a leisurely stroll, picnic and dip in the lake if you’re brave enough!

5. Evening drinks on a Roof Terrace

Don’t fancy a dip in the lake? Fear not this one is a lot easier to do and involves Berlin beer! With a huge array or rooftop bars and cafes you’ll never be short of an option for a cold beer or glass of wine after a day seeing the sights. Head to one of these famous rooftop bars to kick start your night: Andel’s Hotel Sky Bar, Solar and Week End.
