Our latest Berlin blog entry takes you inside the famous Bode Museum, located on the popular Museum Island. As a key attraction included for free with the Berlin Pass we’ve outlined what makes this museum so special and a must-see when visiting Berlin.
The Bode Museum has breath taking architecture, inside and out and offers a great photo opportunity. Renamed the Bode Museum after Wilhelm Von Bode who originally put the wheels in motion for the creation of the museum, it is located at the northern tip of Museum Island.
The main part of the Museum is home to a fabulous collection of statues and sculptures. Arguably the most popular aspect of the Bode is the large collection of Byzantine art, coins and medals.
Laden with magnificent collections of art and sculptures as well impressive architecture this museum is worth visiting. Less busy than other museums on the Berlin Museum Island you will be able to wander around taking in the collections, admiring the exhibitions.
Be sure to keep out for well know pieces including Donatello’s ‘Pazzi Madonna’ and Antonio Canova’s ‘Dancer’ plus important examples of German sculpture by Tilman Riemenschneider and Ignaz Günther.
