Berlin Drinking: The Best Rooftop Bars in Berlin

October 13, 2017 10:00 am by

Forget the Bierhalle for a second, here’s the best rooftop bars in Berlin!

Travel to the heights of Berlin to see the German capital from up above at some of the swankiest rooftop bars in Berlin. As a city that never seems to sleep, the bar circuit is one of the best in the world and it’s dangerously easy for one drink, then another, then another to slip into a night spent dancing to a techno DJ before you’ve realised it. From chic tranquil oases to party destinations, here’s the best places to drink in the skyline and a cocktail or two.

Deck5

Now, a carpark might not sound like the most glamorous place to rest with a drink in hand but Deck5 has proved everyone wrong. Located on top of the Schoenhauser Allee Arcaden, this faux beach is a tropical paradise filled with tiki torches, chic chill out corners and a towering statue of Buddha to top it all off. Open 12-12, it’s a little on the pricier end but after a few fruity cocktails, that’s for your hungover self tomorrow to sort out.

AMANO Rooftop Terrace

If you’re in the city centre, make stopping by AMANO Rooftop Terrace a priority. Designed to look like a chic lounge terrace, you can curl up with your friends on its long outdoor couches over something from their broad (and exciting) cocktail menu. It’s more of a special occasion type of place with prices that really mean business, however there’s no putting a price on the laidback vibe and views over the skyline.

Monkey Bar

Housed in the fun yet sophisticated Hotel Bikini, this sky-high bar is appropriately named given that it overlooks the Berlin Zoo. Beyond the wild residents of the Tiergarten and Zoo, you’ll also be able to take in the colourful characters populating the capital’s streets over a cocktail or four. Grab a bite to eat with friends in the tropical oasis (arrive early for a prime terrace table) and relax – before you know it, a DJ will be spinning and the night will be sure to escalate fast.

House of Weekend

This gritty nightclub is perhaps the truest to Berlin’s spirit, taking what was once a Soviet tower block and transforming it into one of the city’s hottest nightlife destinations. The place only opens up at 11pm so expect a late one, though the views over the city are incredible – you’ll be able to pick out Berlin’s landmarks easily. If it gets a little chilly upstairs, you can always slip down to their studio floor for some serious dancing.

Klunkerkanich

Berlin’s not exactly a beach destination, but rooftop bar Klunkerkanich does its best. Located on top of the Neukoelln Arcade, it’s a world away from the shopping destination below and is all things to everyone craving a great mixology experience – cocktail bar, hidden beach, garden getaway and even a club if the night takes a turn for the wild. If you’re keen on seeing the summer sunset, make sure to get there early as it fills up fast.

Soho House Berlin

As with the other Soho Houses around the world, this members-only club is open to a very exclusive crowd and getting in might be a little tricky unless you happen to rub elbows with someone with an in. Once you’re there though, it’s an unforgettable experience with a proper swimming pool, summery striped chairs and a cocktail list to die for. Filled with creative types at the top of their game, it’s where those in the know go to drink and others wistfully stick their names on waiting lists for.

Hotel de Rome

With the likes of Kate Moss and Reese Witherspoon making the rounds at this swanky hotel, you know you’re in good company at Hotel de Rome’s rooftop terrace. Naturally however, it doesn’t come with a wallet-friendly price tag with a luxe cocktail list that’ll keep you buzzed all night long. The gorgeous sight over the city more than makes up for it though (or at least, will make you forget that hole in your wallet for a little while) with the State Opera House, Television Tower and the Berlin Cathedral in near distance.
